Chief Advisor to the interim government Dr. Muhammad Yunus visited the secret detention center known as 'Aynaghar'. On Tuesday, he toured the cells inside the Directorate General of Defence Intelligence (DGFI) Joint Interrogation Cell and RAB-2's CPC-3.
During the inspection, he was accompanied by Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Advisor Professor Asif Nazrul, Housing and Public Works Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan, Advisor Mahfuz Alam and Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan.
"We have been demanding the search for the missing persons for a long time. Today's inspection is a major breakthrough in the investigation."
In a photo sent by the Chief Advisor's press wing, Professor Yunus can be seen visiting various rooms of 'Aynaghar'. Members of the investigation commission and some journalists were also present there.
On January 19, the commission of inquiry into the disappearances met with the chief advisor and requested to visit the 'mirror house'. Today's visit was held in continuation of this.
This commission, formed by the government, is investigating the disappearances from January 1, 2010 to August 5, 2024. The commission has to submit a report within 45 working days.
"The international community is also concerned about the disappearances. I hope that the truth will come out through the investigation." The families of the disappeared have long alleged that after being identified by law enforcement agencies, they were tortured and detained in the 'mirror house'.
BNP claims that at least 1,244 people have been disappeared from 2010 to 2023, of which 781 were later arrested. Currently, there is no trace of 157 people.
