Arsenal lost 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a tense draw with 10-man Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup. Arsenal's German star Kai Havertz has faced criticism for missing a goal in the match and failing to shoot in the penalty shootout. However, the level of criticism went beyond the limit when Havertz's unborn child was threatened on social media.
Havertz's wife Sofia Havertz, who is currently pregnant, shared two threatening messages on Instagram. In those messages, they threatened to come to their house and kill the child. Sofia expressed her anger at the incident and wrote, "If someone thinks such a message is normal, it is a huge shock to me. I hope you are ashamed of yourself."
Arsenal has already taken an active role in the investigation of the incident. Work is underway to identify the perpetrators, in collaboration with cyber security and data technology company Cynify. Arsenal authorities have described this type of behavior as completely unacceptable and are committed to ensuring that the perpetrators are punished.
Such incidents have once again highlighted the importance of respect for players and humane treatment in the world of sport.
