FIFA has officially unveiled three mascots for the 2026 World Cup. The mascots, which were released on FIFA's website, will represent the three host countries—the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The mascots are Clutch, Maple and Zayu. Clutch, representing the United States, is a powerful eagle. Maple, representing Canada, is a beautiful moose, and Zayu, who comes from the jungles of Mexico, is a jaguar. FIFA President Gianni Infantino said, "Maple, Zayu and Clutch—symbolize joy, enthusiasm and unity, just like the World Cup itself." According to FIFA, these three mascots reflect the culture and heritage of their respective countries.
The mascots also have different characteristics. Maple is traveling to all provinces of Canada to mix with people and highlight the rich culture of the country and will play as a goalkeeper. Zayu, a jaguar born in the jungles of southern Mexico, will showcase his skills as a striker and promote Mexican culture through dance, food and tradition. Clutch, an eagle from the United States, will embrace the country's diverse culture and sporting moments with curiosity and optimism, and will control the flow of play as a midfielder. FIFA said the mascots will bring unity, diversity and the passion of football to the world stage.
The opening match of the 2026 World Cup will be held on June 11 at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The final will be held on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The World Cup will feature 48 teams, up from the previous 32-team format. A total of 104 matches will be played. This time, the final will feature a halftime show for the first time.
The mascots will not only be connected to the sport of football, but will also showcase the cultural heritage and passion of each country on the world stage. As a result, the 2026 World Cup will be a stage for a more colorful, vibrant, and diverse experience.
