M Nazmul Islam returns to BCB finance committee after controversy

Director M Nazmul Islam has returned to the post of head of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) finance committee just 10 days after temporarily losing his position due to controversial comments. A source in the board confirmed that he was given the responsibility of the finance department again at the BCB board meeting yesterday.
M Nazmul Islam was present at the latest meeting of the BCB board of directors. In that meeting, the disciplinary action taken against him was withdrawn and he was given the responsibility of the finance committee again. A BCB director said that the board took this decision because the written explanation given to the disciplinary department was satisfactory.
After the meeting, BCB media committee chairman Amjad Hossain told reporters, "M Nazmul Islam has submitted a written response to the show cause notice that was given to him to the disciplinary department. The disciplinary department has found his explanation acceptable."
Earlier, M Nazmul Islam faced criticism for various statements, including comments he made about former national team captain Tamim Iqbal. At one stage, the statement of refunding the cricketers' salaries also sparked discussion. In these incidents, the Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) demanded his resignation.
When the situation became more complicated, all the cricketers including national team cricketers Mohammad Mithun, Nazmul Hossain Shanto and Mehedi Hasan Miraj announced a boycott of the BPL on January 15. Immediately after this, the BCB issued a show cause notice to M Nazmul Islam and ordered him to give a written explanation within 48 hours.
After the stipulated time, he submitted his explanation to the BCB. However, according to the BCB constitution, the board cannot directly remove any director. The post of a director elected for a four-year term can only be declared vacant in certain circumstances—such as death, mental instability, disciplinary punishment, bankruptcy or absence from three consecutive board meetings.
Overall, this decision by the BCB after the recent controversy has created a new discussion in the cricket arena.
